Often when a party's reputation has been lowered there may be more than one legal cause of action available. 

Sometimes it can be to the advantage of the person defamed to seek relief in the alternative to defamation especially as this is a technical area of the law. 

Some of the common forms of relief that are sough in the alternative include:-

  • a misleading or deceptive conduct claim;
  • a breach of confidence;
